Rainbow Slide Platform
Cost
$200 of lumber
Time to complete
One month
I found a slide on KSL, and I thought, sure I can build a platform. Have I done any kind of construction before? No.
A quick sketch and a Home Depot trip got me four 8' cedar posts in the back of my Honda Fit, plus a load of 2' x 4's. A square and my circular saw were all I needed to create notched posts and a frame.
It was all going so well until I slid my bolts through the frame and into the posts, and I realized they were just a little too short to get the nut on. That's when I discovered the joy of Forstner bits. A few almost accidents taught me to respect the power of sharp metal bits spinning very fast, but I very quickly had myself some neatly countersunk bolts. Lifting the platform into the notches was a team effort, but after that, the hardest part was over.
My favorite moment was screwing the first cloud to the top, stepping back, and laughing in pure joy. It actually looked like my sketch.
I thank God for how he heals me through making. Having the audacity to make ridiculous things also gives me the audacity to push through trigger after trigger. It's all getting better, slowly, slowly. Here's another to victory.
